Notes for JOHN TROY:

John is said by some of his descendants, among them Rev. Jno. C. Troy of Durham, to have been at one time State Solicitor at Salisbury.  He was Sheriff of Bladen County shortly prior to 1797. Late in life, John's father, Michael Troy, became very much reduced in circumstances, owing to the failure of his son John, whose bond he was, as Sheriff of the County of Bladen.  In Langdon & Ward vs. Troy, II Haywood's Reports (North Carolina, 1797, p. 165), John Troy was sued on his bond as Sheriff.  This suit was against John, finally, and his father was apparently held responsible as a result. It is not known when he moved to Liberty Township, but in 1820 he was living with his son, John Balfour Troy, in Liberty. Knee buckles which belonged to John were in the possession of his descendant Mrs. Ida B. Hosea, of Lexington, Mississippi

Notes for MARY HENLEY:

Photo

In the Walker Family history, Mary Henley is a Delaware Indian girl, a Quaker that was disowned by the Quakers for marrying outside of the faith.  There is a record of this in the Quaker meeting minutes.

Roz says: "born 1787 in Back Creek area northwest of Asheboro died 10/22/1873 La Prairie, Adams, Ill and that she was 1/4 Cherokee. Her mother was half Cherokee. Mary wanted to marry a young Quaker boy that her father didn't like, so he didn't approve. Later, when Mary wanted to marry Andrew, a non-Quaker with two illegitimate children, Mary didn't even ask for her father's approval. About 10 years after Andrew died, Mary, being a gutsy single woman with 8 children, the youngest of whom was about 10, joined a wagon train and headed to central Illinois, where she picked out and bought good land with a creek and wood for lumber."
